There is a lot of wood in the Bavarian Forest. The Zellertal Sculpture Route is a vivid depiction of what it can be used for. The forest and meadow cycle route, away from busy roads, is flanked to left and right by 40 wooden sculptures.
The Zellertal Sculpture Cycle Route goes from Bad Kötzting via Arnbruck and Drachselsried to Bodenmais. The Route is the exhibition site of the 9th International Wood Sculpture Symposium "Border Crossers" showing the works of art made from wood in 1999.
The impressive sculptures are displayed in harmony with the landscape of the cycle route.
Families set off from Bad Kötzting
The 31.5 kilometre cycle route has a climb of 250 metres. The route has a number of short but steep upward gradients. Travelling from Bodenmais to Bad Kötzting in particular needs a good degree of fitness.
The opposite direction is more relaxed and is therefore recommended for families with children.
Bayerwaldticket: An Inexpensive Family Excursion
The trip along the Zellertal Sculpture Cycle Route can also be done in one direction. On Saturdays the RBO Bus 6196 from Regen via Bodenmais and Arnbruck to Bad Kötzting has a cycle trailer.
There are also connections on the cycle route to the Waldbahn and the Oberpfalzbahn railways.
Tip: A family excursion is particularly good value with the 7 Bayerwald-Ticket. Two children or all of your own children or grandchildren under 15 years old can accompany you free of charge. The ticket is valid on the Waldbahn and the Oberpfalzbahn.
