Stare open mouthed in amazement? The place for that is the National Park Information Centre Falkenstein in Ludwigsthal. The Bavarian Forest National Park Information Centre is worthy of its name. This is where you can see lynx, wolves, wild horses and ancient cattle right up close. With no entrance free, not only the children will be amazed.
In the oldest German National Park, nature can develop exactly as it wishes and create areas of wilderness. This unique development is depicted at the "Haus zur Wildnis" – virtually and in reality, in a 3-D journey through the wilderness in the cinema and in various exhibitions.
On a Root Path through the EarthA root path leads to an exciting journey of discovery through the earth. Mysterious, wonderful wilderness which you can hear, smell, taste, touch and be amazed by. The animal enclosures complete the experience. An easy path on walkways leads past the natural lynx, wolf, wild horse and ancient cattle enclosures.
A 20 metre high viewing tower offers an amazing overview of the wolf enclosure, the tree tops and the forest panorama. The stone age cave depicts the ice age.
And the Car can be Left BehindThis Bavarian Forest National Park Information Centre was opened in August 2006. Visitors who have already been there speak of "a unique experience of the wilderness and forest". The Haus zur Wildnis also has a restaurant serving regional specialities and a shop with selected souvenirs.
And don’t forget: please visit the Haus zur Wildnis without your car!
There is one, relatively small car park (for which there is a charge), but there is a railway station right beside the animal enclosures. The Falkenstein and RBO (6197/6121) buses provide connections from the National Park Information Centre Falkenstein bus stop on the B11 to walking areas in Zwieslerwaldhaus and Buchenau.
And another thing: visitors who arrive by train or bus pay half price for interesting guided tours.
