Crafts, Forest and Traditions: Waldmuseum Zwiesel

Forest, traditions and glass:
The Waldmuseum in Zwiesel is devoted to these exciting themes. As well as musical instruments and snuff bottles there is also a complete reconstruction of the town’s apothecary.

The first part of the museum depicts the forest habitat. Display cases show the local animal world – small game, animals on and in the water, snakes and lizards, birds including birds of prey.

An ancient scene with bear, wolf and lynx has pride of place.

The local traditions section includes local customs and culture.

The glass section plays an important role, with samples from Bavaria and Bohemia. Main features are the Glass College in Zwiesel, the oldest collection of snuff bottles and glass from the Schachtenbach glassworks. Special exhibitions add to the attractiveness of the museum, for adults as much as for children.
