Discover an exciting underground world – in the historic silver mine at Bodenmais. Ore was mined here as early as the 12th century. Now visitors slip into the blue miner’s suit, put on the protective helmet and descend into the 600 meter long tunnels. The clean, healthy air is free of charge.
Just getting to the silver mine is an adventure: by cable car to the top of the Silberberg (silver mountain), 955 metres above sea level.
Tunnels and SilberbergThe 600 meter long tunnel leads deep into the Silberberg to a large cavern.
In the mine, impressive machines clatter away, the shafts are in excellent condition. Visitors feel that they have been transported back into history and experience how the miners had to toil underground to earn their money. The Silberberg has more than 60 different minerals inside – including silver of course.
Guided Tours The Bodenmais mine offers visitors several guided tours – lasting between 45 minutes and 2 hours. Experienced guides accompany visitors, with colourful descriptions of life and work in the mountain. Anyone who wants to can take a torch and strong shoes and even explore the unlit tunnels in the mine.
Healthy Clean Air Therapy in the TunnelsIn the Therapy Tunnels, the air is completely free of pollen and other allergens, with high relative humidity and pleasant coolness. Breathe deeply. Many asthma and bronchitis patients have found relief here.
